RPE Face Fitting

Recent research indicates that as much as 50% of all Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE) used does not offer the wearer the level of protection assumed and one of the major reasons is that it simply does not fit the users face correctly. Yet, under the regulations RPE must be correctly selected and this includes, for many types of RPE, a Face Fit Test conducted by a trained and competent person.

Our tester has been trained by specialists and is competent to the standards required in the HSE guidance note HSE282/28

Why Perform an RPE Face Fitting Test?

If you provide RPE to your employees then it is essential that you have documentary evidence to show the RPE fits the wearer. By subjecting each wearer to an RPE face fitting test you can be sure that your organisation is meeting and fulfilling the requirements laid out in the Health & Safety Executives guidance. The training is specific to each person and includes:-

  • How to check the mask is working properly before use
  • How to identify worn or broken parts
  • How to check the mask fits (putting on and adjusting)
  • Limitations of the mask to be used
  • A test of the wearers own RPE or issue of a FFP3 disposable and test**

The type of test we offer is a Qualitative fit test used for Filter Face Pieces (FFP) and half masks only.

The person being tested must be clean shaven and not eaten, drunk or smoked for 30 minutes prior to the test

We can carry this service out for you either at our offices in Yeovil, Somerset or at your location throughout the South West*.

We charge £30 per person Plus VAT Group rates are available please ask for details

*A minimum number of 5 delegates are required. Travel expenses may be required depending on location and numbers

**It should be noted that the wearer should always wear the same make and model of RPE that they have used in the test as this is the one that will have been proved to fit correctly.
